How to Style a Console Table Without Overthinking It
A console table is one of those spots that can make a whole room feel more pulled together. But it’s also easy to keep adding things until the surface feels a little too busy. The good news? You don’t need a cart full of new décor to get it right.
Start with one piece that sets the tone
A mirror or a piece of artwork gives the arrangement a starting point. Choose something that feels in proportion to the table, then build around it. A larger piece can do more for the space than several small accessories competing for attention.
Mix the heights, not every style
Try a lamp on one side and a vase with a few stems on the other. They don’t need to match perfectly—just give your eye somewhere to move. Bring in a lower piece, like a shallow bowl or a small stack of books, to keep everything from sitting at the same height.
For a softer look, combine a few different textures: woven rattan, a ceramic vase, and a touch of warm metal. Repeating one or two colors helps those pieces feel connected.
Leave room for real life
If your console is near the front door, make space for the things that actually land there. A small dish for keys or a lidded box can be pretty and useful. Leave some of the tabletop bare, too—it doesn’t need something in every corner.
Before buying anything new, try moving a few pieces over from another room. Sometimes the finishing touch is already in your home; it just needs a new spot.
